Tanabata, also known as the Star Festival is a Japanese festival that celebrates the meeting of Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair) who according to the legend were separated by the Milky Way and were only allowed to meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month.
On the 5th and 6th of August 2015, Kew Gardens will be holding a celebration of the Festival at the Minka House and Bamboo Garden. Haruka Kuroda of, A Thousand Cranes Theatre Company, will be telling the story of the Milky Way.
